Verse 1:

Mary Alice was a girl who lived inside my house,
She’d say there’s a way the wind does blow I’d say
I know I know I know
She’d make me tea when I would get upset, and I’d cry,
Are these the days we’re living in?

Verse 2:

One day I came home, found her talking to herself by the trees,
I do remember that that day there was a light breeze
She said you can’t believe what I’ve just seen
Are these the days that we’re living in?

Chorus 1:

She said, I’m never going outside my house,
I didn’t know it was so blue.
It’s just so cold outside, it’s just so cold outside,
And I don’t know what to do

Verse 3:

Mary Alice was a girl who lived inside my house,
Her spirit was insane, like marching in the rain.
But this day, there was this coldness in her eyes,
Like she’d grown tired of the blue skies

Chorus 2:

She told me, out on the street this man wore a bloody mask,
He’d tried to steal a woman’s bag,
The policemen’s feet, and they just kicked and beat,
And they laughed, they laughed and laughed and laughed

Verse 4:

About this time the skies were turning awful gray,
I wasn’t sure what I could do or say.
I looked in her eyes and saw something inside,
Would you believe I saw the blue sky?

Chorus 3:

And I told her
Mary, imagine mirrors in your hands
See how the world shows many views
But those people there, they are so trapped and scared
And they just don’t, they don’t know what to do,
Chorus 4: I didn’t know if was so cold outside,
I didn’t know it was so blue,
It’s just so cold outside, it’s just so cold outside,
And I said, Mary, only without you,

Bridge: There are these people in this world who destroy everything they see,
But you know if it was up to me, I’d be in your hands.
There are these places grown so cold, somehow I guess I never knew,
But I couldn’t live in this cold cold world without you
And equally there are these people who just laugh and say hellos
But when they say I love you, I love you more, I love you more

Instrumental:

Chorus 5:

That day you should have seen her face,
Her bright red cheeks and fresh blue tears,
There’s a saying that an hour’s not a day,
But there are so many in the year

Ending:

Oh Mary why so sad girl? Why so blue?
Here’s another saying that I hold true.
If you believe in life, if you believe in love
Well then Mary, I believe in you

These are the days we’re living in
We’re living in
